The Bar Harbor Ride

On Sunday May 21, 2000 the American Diabetes Association held their annual Tour-de-Cure bike ride at Bar Harbor, Maine. Seven brave souls from Pratt & Whitney's North Berwick plant set out to conquer the hills of Acadia National Park. There are three rides available: 25 km, 50 km, and 100 km (about 15 miles, 31 miles, and 62 miles respectively). All the rides begin and finish at the beautiful College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor.

The weather was cool and cloudy; not beach weather, but great for bike riding. The support team has rest breaks with plenty of snacks and fluids, plus mechanics and medical personnel were available. We cost them a small fortune on the snacks but luckily we didn't need the mechanic. At the end of the ride was a great lunch, pictures, and prizes.

Team Pratt & Whitney raised $1888 towards diabetes research that day, and along with the other approximately 500 riders raised a total of $106,000.

The New Hampshire Ride

On Sunday May 4th, Steve LaBranche rode 100 miles in his tour through southern New Hampshire.

This is just one of three "century" rides Steve will be doing for charity this year. Outstanding job Steve!

If anyone has other pictures or stories to add, get in touch with me and I'll include that too.
